A Message from the Composer

Steel the Show! is as work written to show the virtuosity and improvisational ability of a tenor pan player through this groovy funk tune. The premiere group, Christian and the Pan-tastic Groove Crew, is a trio that often gigs with steel pan and summer classics. This piece was written to push the limits of this group, featuring each member at some point, and to be an exhilarating concert closer. The main portion of this work is a Vulfpeck inspired funk tune with an introspective steel pan solo inspired by the compositions and virtuosity of both Liam Teague and Brian Mueller. This piece is an audience pleaser intended to be fun for the performers and should be a just as exciting with each performance. No matter where this tune is played, it is sure to Steel the Show!
